KARACHI: Thirteen people, including seven children, and were killed when a landslide hit shanties in Gulistan- i-Jauhar in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The incident took place at around 2:00 am when a rock fell on makeshifts of three families. Rescue teams rushed to the scene and recovered the bodies and some injured. Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Siddiqui also reached the spot and supervised the rescue operation. The rescue teams include Rangers, police, Rescue 1122, KMC officials and nearby residents.
The bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities. Rescue workers dug rubble with shovels, hoes and mechanical tools for recovering the bodies and survived people. The victim’s family came from Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan, and were living in the shanties.
