KARACHI: All the 305 deteriorating buildings would be vacated in Karachi; this decision was taken on Thursday in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui.
“Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) will complete all the mandatory and legal actions for this as soon as possible. SBCA will right away make the residents of the dangerous buildings aware of outcomes of living on such places,” commissioner Karachi said.
Director Department of Dangerous Buildings SBCA Aashkar Dawar presented report on the dangerous buildings in Karachi to the commissioner and briefed him about the efforts and operations of SBCA to vacate the poor buildings.
Siddiqui said SBCA should work in consultation with the heritage department and engineering and architects council.
“Awareness campaign should be started to ensure that the residents are mindful of the danger of living in fraying buildings,” he said.
The meeting decided that SBCA should take priority measures in this regard viewing safety of human lives. Cooperation of utility organizations including electricity, water and gas should be taken. SBCA should request all the utility providers to issue notices of disconnection to the residents.
The meeting was told that 305 buildings were declared to be dangerous in the city after completing all the legal procedures.
