58 shopkeepers fined for over charging


KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 58 shopkeepers were charged with Rs114000 fine for selling commodities on above rate than fixed by the city administration.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said that city administration has focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas include Korangi, Bin Qasim, Landhi, New Karachi, North Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Gulberg, SITE, Orangi, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar and Aram Bagh.

In the crackdown, 40 milkmen, 02 fruit sellers, 01 vegetable seller, 01 shopkeeper of general commodities and 14 chicken-sellers, have been fined on selling essential items on excessive prices, while, 02 persons were sent to jail for selling fresh milk on excessive rate.
