KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 89 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 124500 fine for selling commodities above government rates, while two others were jailed.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.
He further said that city administration had focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Saddar, Garden, SITE, Baldia, Orangi, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Model Colony, Bin Qasim, Korangi, district south, central and east.
In the crackdown, 47 milkmen, 26 shopkeepers of general commodities, 13 chicken sellers, two vegetable sellers and one fruit sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices.
