Baloch sees govt trying to delay polls
LAHORE: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has charged that the government was looking for excuses to delay the general elections.
Talking to the office- bearers of FAFEN, organization monitoring the electoral process, at Mansoora, he said that if the elections of 2002, 2008 and 2013 could be held on the previous census, why the 2018 elections could not also be held on the previous census.
Liaqat Baloch further said that the votes of around thirty million men and women in the country were still not registered but the government and the Election Commission were silent and were not ready to take any step in this direction. He wondered that the lobbies which made much propaganda on the low turnout of the female voters were also not pressing for the registration of these votes.
Earlier, while addressing a Tahafuz e Khatme Nubuwwat conference at a local mosque, Liaqat Baloch said the country was facing a series of crisis and it was the collective responsibility of the political forces to protect the democratic and electoral process and the independence of the judiciary. He said that the parliament must play its due role in this regard.[related_post themes="text" id="324221"]
