Billion Tree Tsunami Forestation to stabilize provincial economy, Ishtiaq Urmar


Peshawar: Advisor to Chief Minister, advisor on Forest and Environment Mohammad Ishtiaq Urmar has said that under KP “Billion Trees Tsunami Forestation” Scheme of provincial Govt, 11 Million trees have been planted while 2415 million private Nurseries and 235 Govt: nurseries have been established to ensure plantation over a vast area of the province.

This he stated while presiding over a high level meeting regarding the development of forests at Peshawar on Thursday. Project Director Faizul Bari, Chief conservator Peshawar Siddique Khattak , Chief Conservator Malakand Afsarulah Wazir and other concerned authorities attended the meeting.

On the occasion, advisor to CM was told that total amount of Rs. 1912 million was approved for the fiscal year 2014-15, out of which, Rs 716.37 have been released while Rs 440 million have been utilized for the purpose.

While talking on the occasion Ishtiaq Urmar said that the forests were the foundation for environmental development, because they were helpful against, soil erosion , storms and the disasters of floods. He said that they also played a vital role to maintain pleasant temperature. The advisor further stated that the said project would not only strengthen the provincial economy but would also create employment opportunities in the province.

He made it clear that the Task Force formulated for the said purpose has presented different suggestions including increase in forest covered area from 19 present to 22 percent, extension of protected areas, purification of climate from environmental Pollution, provision of clean drinking water and increase employment opportunities. The implementation on these suggestions had already been started, he added.

He said to achieve the target of planting on billion trees in the province, each your about 250 million plants should be planted , that would only be possible if the project continued for making the KP green and clean
