ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for CA&DD, Barrister Usman Ibrahim on Wednesday led awareness walk in PIMS for breast cancer, organized under the auspices of federal breast cancer screening programme, headed by Dr. Ayesha Isani Majeed.
On this occasion, the Minister said that Breast Cancer is a curable disease if detected in the early stage. He said this awareness campaign will go a long way in increasing the awareness level regarding breast cancer.
He said women should immediately visit the doctors if they feel any of the symptoms of breast cancer. The federal government is making all efforts to provide quality health care to all the stratum of the society, especially the lower income class, the Minister added.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Shaheed Zulifqar Ali Bhutto Medical University/PIMS, Professor Javed Akram said that Breast Cancer is women’s biggest killer. He said one out of every seven women is suffering from breast cancer.
He said Breast Cancer can be avoided by adopting a healthy lifestyle, adding that breast feeding by mothers greatly reduces the risk of this fatal disease. He said two mammography machines have been purchased for free breast cancer diagnosis. Barrister Usman Ibrahim, will soon inaugurate those machines, he said.
At the end, the Minister appreciated the efforts of the organizers of the walk on breast cancer awareness which was followed by a seminar. The Minister said that the role of media is of utmost importance in raising awareness regarding breast cancer and hoped that the media will be working effectively in this regard.
