KARACHI: Medical Superintendent, Sindh Government Qatar Hospital, Orangi Town, Dr Syed Khalid Masood, on Monday said hours long power failures are causing trouble not only to patients but also to medical staff in the hospital, therefore, K-Electric management should exempt this healthcare from load shedding.
Talking to PPI, Dr Masood, said prolonged announced and unannounced load shedding in Qatar Hospital situated in Orangi Town, have been affecting healthcare facilities. He informed that 10-hour-long power failure on day basis had compelled doctors to postpone surgical operations that affects patients.
He demanded of the K-Electric administration to exempt the Qatar Hospital like Civil Hospital Karachi, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center and The Kidney Center.
He said number of visiting patients was on the rise in 416-beded teaching hospital while over 3500 patients are attended in OPDs. He said 28 medical officers, both male & female, seats are lying vacant in hospital. He said good number of consultant posts are also lying empty in institution. He informed that 107 nurses’ posts had been sanctioned for the hospital out of which 38 are still lying vacant.
Dr Masood said hospital offers all major OPDs services, including gynecology, orthopedic, ENT, cardiac emergency, dialysis facilities, emergency care, blood bank and other diagnostics facilities, to residents of Orangi Town and other neighboring localities free of cost. He said dialysis facilities were also available free of cost in the hospital.
He said around 600 to 700 patients are brought in hospital’s emergency department daily basis. He said that currently, 170 doctors are performing their duties at the hospital but institution urgently needs consultant doctor to improve patient care at healthcare. He said 600 paramedical and other administrative employees are also performing their duties in hospital.
He said Paramedical Training Institute, School of Midwifery and School of Nursing are also established in the hospital. He said FCPS training in various medical fields, including Gyne, Eye and medicine, is also provided on regular basis in the healthcare.
