CMCH official sent to jail in corruption charges

Larkana, Sindh: The Circle Officer (CO), Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), Larkana, Qazi Sharfuddin, arrested Altaf Hussain Soomro, Office Superintendent of the Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH), here on Thursday morning and produced him before the anti-corruption court which sent him to jail.

According to CO, during his posting as incharge of CMCH Planning Section, Soomro prepared fake bills and helped contractors in granting advance payments who were working at Shaikh Zayed Hospital for Women in 2015 for installation of air-conditioning system.

He said that more accused are involved who will also soon be arrested.

Qazi told newsmen that FIR No:05/2016 has already been registered at ACE against eight accused including Soomro, retired medical superintendent Dr. Safiullah Abbasi and others.

He said that corruption of over Rs12 million has been made and the work is still incomplete. He said Soomro was incharge of accounts of all the planning & development works at the relevant time. Sources said that he was appointed as Purchee Fee Clerk (PFC) in 80s at CMCH and since then he managed promotions several times due to his alleged connections at higher places and was presently posted as administrative officer (BS-17) at CMCH. However, other Purchee Fee Clerks appointed with him are still working in the same scale.
