Commissioner reviews Independence Day celebration arrangements


KARACHI: Arrangements of Independence Day events to be held at Quaid’s Mausoleum were reviewed in a meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui at his office on Tuesday.

Additional Commissioner Karachi II Haji Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner East Agha Pervez, representatives of Quaid e Azam Mazar Management Board, police, Sindh Protocol, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Sindh Boys Scouts Association, director sports, Karachi Water & Sewerage Board, K-Electric and officers of other departments were also present on the occasion.

Commissioner Karachi said 14th August will be celebrated with full zeal and fervour across the city. Central event of Independence Day would be organized at Quaid’s Mausoleum.

Siddiqui said Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat ul Ebad and Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah will hoist the national flag at the mausoleum. Wreath would be laid at the grave of Jinnah and Fatiha would be offered then.

“Members of provincial cabinet, ambassadors of different countries and prominent personalities of the city would also participate at the occasion,” he said.

The meeting decided that law enforcements agencies would take effective measures for security on the occasion. More than 2400 schoolchildren would participate and groups out of them would present national songs. Sweetmeats will be distributed among the children by the administration. Members of Commissioner Karachi Youth Team will also be present on the occasion.

The meeting decided that full-dress rehearsal will be held a day before on 13th August to finalise the program. Commissioner Karachi would inspect the rehearsal.

“Guests would be seated at 8:00am and gates will be closed for guests at 8:45am. Quran will be recited at 8:50am. Siren would be played at 8:58 and flag-hoisting ceremony will be held at 9:00am. Meanwhile, CM and governor will lay wreath upon the grave and offer Fatiha,” the meeting decided.

Siddiqui directed to ensure fool-proof security on the occasion. He said Independence Day ceremonies will be held all over the city. The city administration will remain in contact with the relevant organizations and parties for every possible cooperation.

He expressed hope that the citizens would celebrate the day with patriotism and exhibit the enthusiasm of service and love with the country and city.
