KARACHI: Dr Shamshad Akhter UN Under Secretary General and Executive Secretary, UNESCAP called upon the private sector to play a key role as a central partner as the Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals are defined by the United Nations.
Dr Shamshad was addressing the final round of stakeholders consultations on Post-2015 Development Agenda organized by Global Compact Network Pakistan in collaboration with Employers Federation Pakistan at FPCCI Federation House yesterday evening.
To ensure deeper and lasting economic and human progress, the architecture of Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals call for rethink and redesign of development policy frameworks around the three core pillars of economic, social and environmental concerns. She suggested for multi stakeholder partnerships initiated by the private sector to execute and implement the complex but attainable path of sustainable development.
Dr. Shamshad’s Key note speech was followed by a very lively panel discussion led by prominent stakeholder representatives which included Aman ul Haque of Engro Foundation, Dr. Khalida Ghaus Managing Director Social Policy Development Center, Dr. Mustaghis Ur Rehman Dean of Business Administration, Indus University, Dr. Zubair Bawany of CSR Association of Paksitan, Shouket Ali, President All Pakistan Trade Union Congress, Nazar Ali Director STEVTA and Bushra Raza, District Governor Lions Club.
Earlier, Ahsan Ullah Khan President of the Network welcomed the participants, while Fasihul Karim Siddiqi Secretary, Local Network presented an update on the deliberations of the past three consultation meetings. Khawaja Mohammad Nauman President Employers Federation of Pakistan in his closing remarks renewed the commitment of the private sector to development goals through enhanced partnerships.
