Corruption: SHC extends Hashim Raza Zaidi’s bail

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday extended a pre-arrest bail of former Managing Director KWSB, Hashim Raza Zaidi, till 16th November 2015.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is investigating into charges of corruption and embezzlement against the front men of corruption mafia in Sindh including former Commissioner of the metropolis, Hashim Raza Zaidi.

SHC bench had restrained NAB from arresting him while granting him a pre-arrest bail.

Zaidi’s counsel stated that his client had nothing to do with any corruption or embezzlement; therefore his bail should be extended. SHC bench approved the request and extended his bail till 16th November.

Earlier the court had directed Zaidi to cooperate with relevant authorities in investigation and not to leave the country. SHC bench also directed the interior ministry not to provide him a passport and other documents required for travelling abroad.

Zaidi approached the court against his possible arrest by NAB as the Bureau is inquiring against him. NAB has started investigating against big fish in Sindh and reportedly former MD of KWSB was one of them.

It is pertinent to mention here that Zaidi is not the only bureaucrat of Sindh who got protective bail from SHC. Earlier, Chief Secretary Sindh, Mohammad Siddique Memon and chairman of Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) Abdus Subhan Memon have also reached the court to get bail as they were under inquiry of NAB.
