ISLAMABAD: A contempt of court plea was filed in the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for addressing United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in English.
The petition was submitted by Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi. The plea maintained that the prime minister has disrespected the SC’s order by delivering a speech at the UNGA in English. The SC had passed an order on September 8 regarding implementation of Urdu in government departments.
The petitioner has requested the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Nawaz Sharif. The plea stated that all other world leaders addressed the General Assembly in their national languages.
It is worth mentioning that Nawaz Sharif had delivered a speech at the UNGA on September 30 in which he raised voice for resolution of Kashmir dispute along with other matters
