KARACHI: Customs on Thursday claimed to have foiled several smuggling bids at Karachi port and airport and seized goods worth Rs 438 million during last three months.
Director Customs Intelligence Muhammad Asif said that the smuggled goods included 385 liters of Iranian diesel, air-conditioners, vehicles, mobile phones, laptop computers, generators, tyres and several other goods. He also briefed about recently formulated anti-smuggling strategy by federal Board of Revenue (FBR), which brought together other law enforcing authorities to work against this menace.
He said that the directorate also recovered more than Rs 103 million in terms of taxes during last three months. He said that tax evasion of Rs 796 million was also unearthed in 36 cases. He said that revenue of Rs 63 million was also submitted to the provincial government.
He said that the directorate would continue to take strict against smuggling and necessary instructions in this regard were also issued to concerned staff of Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur.
