Day: (National Disaster Awareness Day being observed)
ISLAMABAD: National Disaster Awareness Day is being observed today (Sunday) to commemorate the victims of disastrous earthquake that hit the upper parts of the country on this day in 2005.
The quake resulted in death of thousands of people and injuries to many more besides heavy damage to the buildings in Azad Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of the country.
Special events being hold to pay homage to the victims of the disaster and raise spirits for facing the challenges in the post- disaster scenario.
In this connection, National Disaster Management Authority is organizing various programs including flag march, cyclotrons, awareness march and a public ceremony at Fatima Jinnah Park, Islamabad today (Sunday).
Special prayers will be offered and candle vigil and sky lanterns lighting will be held at the end of the programs in the evening.
The 12th Anniversary of devastating Earthquake 8, 2005 is also being observed with national spirit throughout Azad Kashmir.
In Muzaffarabad, the main function of the day was held at AJK University Ground. Acting PM AJK Raja Nisar, Cabinet members, MLAs, government officials, students and people belonging to all walks of life participated. Later floral wreath were laid at the monument of martyrs.
Rich tributes were paid to the Armed Forces of the country, people and government of Pakistan, international community for their unprecedented contribution in relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction activities in the quake stricken areas of Azad Kashmir.[related_post themes="text" id="321952"]
