KARACHI: Dengue viral fever is in full bloom in Karachi with hundreds of new cases being reported every week; however, the provincial health department, as well as, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) have miserably failed to control the disease.
Provincial Health Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar on Tuesday said 339 more dengue virus cases were reported across the Sindh in a week, out of which 330 patients belonged to Karachi and one patient died due to severe condition.
He said in a statement issued here Tuesday that two patients were from Umerkot, 4 were from Mirpurkhas and one each from Sukkur, Larkana and Ghotki.
He added a total 2,017 cases of dengue virus have been reported this year so. He said an awareness campaign against dengue virus is going on and it will be completed till end of October.
He directed administration of all government and private hospitals to report the cases of dengue virus diagnosed patients to Dr Masood Solangi Program Manager Dengue Prevention and Control program in order to maintain the record and to combat against the disease.
He also issued directives to the Principal Ghulam Mohammad Mahar medical college Sukkur to ensure the visits of professors and associated professors to Civil Hospital Sukkur so that young doctors might get benefit of their experience.
