KARACHI: The Dialysis Unit at Lyari General Hospital, Karachi, has been made operational again after three-month lapse, it was learned on Wednesday.
An administrative official at Lyari General Hospital told PPI that eight-bed Dialysis Unit had been temporarily closed down by the hospital management three month back as some fault developed in its RO plant. The closure of Dialysis Unit has badly affected the patient care in nephrology department and compelled registered patients to visit other healthcare centres.
The dozens of patients with kidney and dialysis requirements from Lyari and other parts of Karachi visit the hospital for treatment each day. The incompetent administration of the hospital did not bother to repair the RO plant, or install new one to provide dialysis facility at earliest.
Another official said dialysis unit had been closed down over some minor fault and the hospital administration could not detect the fault properly. The registered patients remained deprived from dialysis facility due to incompetency of management.
He said: “There are eight dialysis machines in the hospital where eight to 10 dialysis are performed every day but due to minor fault, the patients with dialysis requirements remained deprived from services over three months.”
Head of Nephrology Department, Lyari General Hospital, Prof Qurban Sheikh, when contacted, said dialysis unit had been made operational again in the hospital. He said registered patients had been called for dialysis again.
