Islamabad: Federal Minister for Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC), Mian Riaz Husain Pirzada has said that Pakistan and Philippines possessed great potential for boosting up existing bilateral ties between the two countries particularly in different areas of tourism and sports.
The Federal Minister said this while in a meeting with Philippines Ambassador Domingo Lucenario Jr here Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that Pakistan was an attractive destination for tourist all around the world. He further added, Department of Tourism has actively promoted tourism to take advantage of the fact that the indirect impact of tourism on the economy was many fold then the actual money spent by visitors. It has the potential to become an attractive destination for Philippines tourists.
He further said, various sports and pastimes were popular in both the countries including basketball, boxing, cockfighting, volleyball, football, badminton, karate, taekwondo, billiards, ten-pin bowling, chess, cycling, and mountaineering. Both the countries should focus on creating more opportunities to invite various players of different games on reciprocal basis.
Federal Minister added since both the countries shared certain commonalities in their art and culture, there must be exchange of cultural troupes. There should be more cultural performances on various festive occasions. In this regard plans are afoot to conclude agreements between educational institutions in the Philippines and Pakistan for exchanges of Islamic scholars.
Ambassador Domingo Lucenario Jr. also told that presently many Philippines nationals were working on various projects in Pakistan in the field of infrastructure development, construction of dams, mining, agriculture, nuclear energy and banking sector.
He was happy that Government of Pakistan accorded high priority to the security of Philippines nationals. Moreover, both countries were committed more than ever to elevating Philippines-Pakistan ties to a higher plane for regional peace and the prosperity of their peoples.
