SIALKOT: Member National Assembly (MNA) Sahibzada Syed Iftikharul Hassan Shah on Monday urged the journalists’ community to play its pivotal role in promotion of positive, dedicative, qualitative and constructive journalism, besides highlighting the public issues, paving the ways of socio-economic and public welfare-oriented development.
He stated this while addressing the participants after administering oath to the newly elected office bearers of Daska Union of Journalists held at Daska. MPAs Mohammad Asif Bajwa, Rana Mohammad Afzal, Assistant Commissioner Daska Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhoon, President PML-N Daska Mohammad Afzal Mansha , senior journalists Zafar Malik, Abid Hussain Mehdi and President Daska Bar Association (DBA) Rana Khalid Abbas were also present on this occasion.
The MNA said that the journalists were the eyes and the ears of the society, saying that the journalists could also play positive role in public opinion-making, besides, bridging the communicational gap between the public and the government. He said that the journalism was the fourth pillar of the nation and the journalists were performing their professional duties by putting their lives on stake. He said that the press and the nation rise and fall together.
He stressed the journalists to utilize their all of the energies in promotion of “Soft Image” of Pakistan globally. He said government was fully aware of the perturbing problems being faced by the journalists’ community and was making all out sincere efforts to resolve the journalists’ problems amicably.
On this occasion, Assistant Commissioner Daska Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhoon presented Special Award to senior most journalist Zafar Malik for his meritorious professional duties and services in promoting the positive, qualitative, dedicative and constructive journalism in the region.
Later, MNA Sahibzada Syed Iftikharul Hassan Shah administrated oath to the newly elected office bearers of Daska Union of Journalists including Dr. Irfan Afzaal (President), Dr. Amin Raza (Senior Vice President), Ch. Naveed, Shehbaz Ahmed, Ghazanfar Ali Mughal, Ali Butt (Vice Presidents), Patras Sahotra (Joint Secretary), Mirza Umair Zafar, Dr. Arif Mehmood (Information Secretaries), Imtiaz Mehar (Finance Secretary) and Rana Waseem Ashraf (Chairman Executive Committee).
