Extortionist gets 15 years term


KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court-I (ATC-I) on Wednesday awarded 15-year collective imprisonment with fine of Rs 150,000 to accused Mohammad Ibrahim in different terrorism charges.

ATC judge pronounced the verdict after recording evidence, statement of witnesses, and hearing arguments from both sides. The accused, Ibrahim was found guilty of demanding extortion of Rs 10,00,000 from the complainant Mohammad Rafeeq and hurling threats of killing him in case of non-payment.

The court also imposed a collective fine of RS 150,000 on the convict, he will have to undergo an additional 18 months imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.

The ATC judge awarded 5- year imprisonment and fine of Rs 50,000 in extortion charge, 5- year imprisonment and fine of Rs 50,000 in anti-terrorism act 5- year imprisonment and fine of Rs 50,000 illegal weapon possession act. All the convictions would undergo simultaneously.
