Lahore: THE FEDERAL REVENUE ALLIANCE EMPLOYEES UNION (FBR UNION) has criticized the higher authorities of Punjab Police for deploying hundreds of policemen at REGIONAL TAX OFFICE, baton charging and registering FIRs against workers who were protesting just for their rights.
Talking to media men at Union Office, The UNION CENTRAL PRESIDENT, MIAN ABDUL QAYYUM, has said that the police officers sent 350 to 400 police men to control a little number of workers at RTO, who were raising voice against atrocities of the Chief Commissioner in a democratic and legal way.
“The Workers were protesting against Poor Security Arrangements and for manhandling of a bailiff (ARIF BAIG) who is now paralyzed at a local hospital. The union was also protesting for a lower divisional clerk (MOHAMMAD AJMAL) who died for not going through dialyses treatment, as his medical bills had not been cleared for the last four months by the Chief Commissioner.”
A prayer for the innocent martyrs of Pishawar was also a part of our workers’ gathering but the attack of police on the on unarmed FBR staff thwarted a peaceful demonstration.
The union and management have held several rounds of talks and a final meeting is going to be held on Monday and we hope the management will accept our demands and restore all members, as 15 more employees were suspended on Saturday despite talks are underway. If our genuine issues are not redressed within the given time till Monday (December 29) the workers will shut the whole FBR across the country, MIAN ABDUL QAYYUM reiterated. CHIEF COMMISSIONER will be responsible for this STRIKE as we do not want closure of tax offices at the closing dates of calendar year.
