FO (Pakistan facilitates 2nd round talks between Afghan govt ,Taliban)

Islamabad: Pakistan is to facilitate the second round of talks between the Afghan government and Afghan Taliban.

This was stated by Foreign Office Spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah at weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.

He said Pakistan remains committed to supporting and facilitating an Afghan led and Afghan owned reconciliation process.

He said peace in Afghanistan is not only in the interest of Afghan people but also the people of Pakistan.

He emphasised willingness to take necessary steps for improving relations with India but cautioned its South Asian neighbour to refrain from making accusations without evidence.

“Pakistan had condemned the Gurdaspur attack. India should not level accusations without an investigation,” FO spokesman Qazi Khalilullah told reporters during the weekly news briefing.

The spokesman did not comment on the death of Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Omar but did say Pakistan was investigating reports of his death.
