FOP organizes a walk outside PPC to declare October 12 as international Day


Peshawar: To create awareness among society regarding Spinal Cord Injury, Friends of Paraplegics (FOP) organized a walk outside Peshawar Press Club on Monday asking the government to declare October 12 as international Day.

Led by the general secretary, FOP, Engineer Irfanullah, Ihsan Danish, Mushtaq Hussain, Shahabuddin, Iltafur Rehman, Afshan Afridi, Furqan and Nadrat Gul, the participants were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands.

Sitting in the wheel chairs, the participant marched on the road outside the PPC, the speakers said that according to WHO report 2013, every years, two to five lakhs people become disables due to Spinal Cord Injury while in Pakistan, seven to 10,000 persons become disabled in Pakistan annually. Majority of the patients, they said commit suicide or face acute problems due to non availability of proper care and treatment.

The speakers asked the government and international bodies to take steps for creating awareness among the people regarding Spinal Cord Injury and the provincial government should take steps for the treatment of helpless patients.
