FPCCI: (Govt’s notification of withdrawal of Sales Tax on Wheat Bran is still awaited: FPCCI)

ISLAMABAD: Expressed his serious views on sales tax on wheat bran, Khawaja Zarar Kaleem, Acting President FPCCI, has said that despite the assurance of the government for withdrawal of sales tax on wheat bran to Pakistan Flour Mills Association, the notification is still awaited.

He was expressing his views in a meeting with Mian Mahmood Hasan, Chairman Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) Sindh who visited FPCCI to meet the Acting President and other members of FPCCI on Tuesday.

According to a press statement issued here on Tuesday, the meeting was also attended by Mohammad Ikram Rajput, Vice President and Incharge Sindh Region, Shahnawaz Ishtiaq, Vice President and past vice President Mumtaz Sheikh and Chaudhary Amir Abdullah, Vice Chairman PFMA and Piar Ali Lasi.

The PFMA Chairman discussed various matters of the flour mills of Sindh province and drew the attention of the Acting President FPCCI to take up the matter of 9.2 million ton wheat lying with the government which is due to non-issuance of government prices could not be released.

He also informed that the current stock of wheat also includes previous year stock of 3.5 to 4.0 million ton which was fumigated six ago and the period of fumigation is now over.

Zarar Kaleem said that the government should announce rates of the wheat so that the wheat grain can be released to the millers as the government does not have sufficient storage capacity to keep the wheat. He further said that due to current rainy season and flood the wheat lying in the open air will be ruined.

The early announcement of wheat price will save the wheat in the stock of the government and the millers will get it in right time and there will be no shortage of wheat flour or any price hike of wheat flour in the country in near future, he added.

Zarar Kaleem further urged the government to issue notification of withdrawal of sales tax on wheat bran as already agreed by the government with the Flour Mills Association of Pakistan.
