Matli, Sindh: A free hepatitis screening camp was arranged at a neighbouring village under the Hepatitis Control Program Centre Matli.
Incharge doctor Danish Siddique Khaskheli said more than 1200 patients were examined in the camp held at Goth Murad Chhalgri and hepatitis infection was confirmed in 57 of them whose treatment has already been began.
It may be noted that hepatitis is epidemic in Sindh province, especially in its coastal areas mainly due to supply of contaminated water and excessive use of Gutika. Under the law Pan and Gutka are banned but practically it is a thriving business in Sindh, especially in Karachi, Thatta, Badin and other coastal areas.
The tail end areas of Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Badin and Thatta are supplied highly contaminated water which results in spread of diseases including hepatitis.
