KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhter Farooqui on Saturday said the Peshawar incident had left deep effects on the minds of school children all over the country, therefore, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation by holding sports festival tried to bring back the kids from shock and encourage them to carry on their routine activities.
“Inter District Karachi Girls Sports Festival would become a base for increasing healthy and constructive activities in educational institutions after the unfortunate incident. Girls of KMC schools got a chance to participate in games with the girls of other schools through the festival which has encouraged them,” he said while addressing the closing ceremony of the festival in National Sports Board ground.
Farooqui said sports activities were part and parcel along studies. Through the festival the students would be able to take part in educational and sports activities with more spirit.
More than 1000 female students from 786 schools of Karachi participated in various sports discipline during the event.
A flag hoisting ceremony was also included in the closing ceremony during which a 200 feet long and 85 feet wide national flag was hoisted.
The administrator said the media has encouraged us on all levels and we expected that it would play important role in polishing the talent of these students as well.
He urged the teachers to pay special attention on their work and bring further improvement in the standard of KMC run schools.
In the end Administrator Karachi gave prizes and medals to the successful participants of the sports festival.
Advisor to Administrator for Sports and Education Brig (r) AS Nasir, Deputy Commissioner East Agha Pervez, Senior Director Culture, Sports and Recreation Muhammed Rehan Khan, Director Sports Afaq Durrani and other officers were also present on the occasion.
