Peshawar: The Advisor to Chief Minister KP Amjid Afridi has disclosed that the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will organize the Free Style Polo Tournament in Islamabad during the upcoming winter Season.
Inaugurating the Tour de Galiyat a bicycles race from Islamabad to Nathia Galli (Abbottabad) here Tuesday morning he said that this year the international even could not be organized at Shandur, upon Chitral, due to floods.
He said that being committed to the promotion of sports activities in the province and the country; they will organize the international even in Islamabad once the winter season hits its peak.
Talking as Chief Guest on the occasion, Federal Minister for IPC Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada said that KP and the whole Pashtuns and Afghans had always produced sportsmen of international repute but regretted that instead of providing them opportunities of making their talents being recognized, every kind of weapon from artillery, drone and terrorism are first and lost tested upon them.
He regretted that instead of utilizing costly weapons upon these Pashtuns, just a fraction of it should be utilized for promotion of healthy activities like sports on them and there will be no terrorism and violence whatsoever. He also promised to ask the Prime Minister to provide bicycles to the participants.
A large number of cyclists are participating who reaches Abbottabad from where they will leave for Nathiagali tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. The two day cycle marathon will concluded there and then. The cyclists are passing through G.T Road Hassan Abdal-Haripur and will stay in Abbottabad for the night.
Addressing on the occasion, advisor to Chief Minister KP Amjid Afridi said that neither there was the lack of talent in KP nor the commitment of the provincial government and thus during the last over two years sports activities have been greatly promoted.
However, he said that the lack of resources was hampering the efforts of the provincial government to promote sports activities therefore he called upon the federal government to support. He also regretted that the groupings and internal politics among different sports organizations were creating hardly for promotion of such healthy activities.
He pointed out that they were organizing sport events in which 3176 sportsmen were participating but two rival groups i.e. sports associations entered into litigation and thus one of them got a stay order from the court against it. He called upon all concerned that let sports be taken above politics and every kind of groupings among the sports men be eradicated in the larger interests of the nation.
