Govt was fully committed to facilitate return process of TDPs, Syed Imtiaz


Peshawar: The Director General Projects FATA Syed Imtiaz Hussain Shah has said that the government was fully committed to effectively facilitate return process of the Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) and to provide them basic facilities as well as improved services delivery across FATA.

He was addressing the 6th meeting of Donors Coordination Steering Committee (DCSC) held at a local hotel in Islamabad the other day. The meeting was attended by the government officers, international donors’ community and members of the civil society organizations.

The DG said the government in collaboration with the international development partners had taken many interventions for mainstreaming FATA. He said the journey would continue and a lot more had to be done in this regard.

Welcoming the participants, the DG said that the DCSC had a mechanism to bring all the stakeholders together and help them synergize their efforts in a concerted manner for mainstreaming FATA. He hoped that the forum would provide firm basis for sustainable development of FATA.

The DG Projects also made brief presentation on the updated status of the TDPs and shared various initiatives undertaken on the part of the government that depicted its steady resolve to ensure and facilitate the return process of TDPs and provision of basic facilities and improved service delivery across FATA.

He, however, said that all that done were not enough and emphasized that the government along with the international community needed to adopt proactive approach in mobilization of resources so as to carry out activities as planned. The international donor community lauded the process of sectoral development strategy undertaken in the FATA Secretariat that would allow basis for strategic planning and optimal utilization of resources.

The Embassy of Germany made detailed presentation on the development assistance extended to FATA through various interventions and felicitated FATA Secretariat for providing necessary support for materializing development assistance.

Two documentaries on reconstruction and rehabilitation strategy of FATA Secretariat for TDPs and on the overall ongoing developmental intervention being carried out by the development partners were shown in the meeting, which were highly appreciated by the participants.
