ILM condemns manhandling of media men


Karachi: Islamic Lawyers Movement (ILM) here Monday strongly condemned the hooliganism of masked cops in the premises of Sindh High Court, where they manhandled media persons.

ILM Karachi chapter senior vice president Syed Abdul Waheed Advocate Supreme Court said the corrupt police have created a state within a state. He said in no any civilized society masked hooligans are allowed to torture media men and ironically this manhandled occurred in the sacred premises of the Sindh High Court.

He appealed to the chief justice of the SHC to take a suo moto of this incident which is contempt of court. He said journalists have bravely supported lawyers in their every movement for the supremacy of law and constitution.

However, on Monday, the SHC barred senior officers of Karachi police from performing duties till next orders. A two-member bench heard the case pertaining to contempt of court and torture on media persons.

IG Sindh Police Ghulam Haider Jamali, AIG Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo and Chief Secretary Sindh personally appeared before the bench. The judges expressed displeasure on the sad incident and told the IGP Sindh that it was an attack on court that would not be tolerated.

The court barred AIGP Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo, DIG South Feroz Shah and SSP South Chaudhry Asad from performing duties till next orders.
