IoBM wins AKU inter-varsity football trophy


KARACHI: The final of the 12th Aga Khan University (AKU) Inter-University Football Tournament was played yesterday at the AKU Football Ground.

Institute of Business Management (IoBM) Team clinched the Football Trophy defeating Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology (SZABIST) Team on extra time by 2-0 goals.

Guests of Honour Dr. Ehsan Bari, Assistant Professor and Head of Neurosurgery, AKU and Sher Muhammad, International Player, Pakistan Football Team in presence of Riaz Akbar Contractor, Chief Organizer and Manager AKU Sports Centre, Qamar Ali, Football Head Coach, AKU, Sajjad Akbar, Tournament Secretary and M. Nizam, Media Coordinator distributed the prizes among the players. The IoBM Captain Taha Qais received the Winning Trophy while SZABIST’s Skipper Paras Musavi received the Runner’s-up Trophy.

Hamza Younus of IoBM was given the Best Player of the Tournament award. Special Consolation Prizes were awarded to Arsal Shakeel of BU, Jibraan Fawad of AKU, Ammar Hussain of SZABIST and Usman Saeed of IoBM for demonstrating excellent skills in the Football Tournament.

Dr. Ehsan Bari paid tributes to the efforts of AKU Sports Centre Organizers for organizing such healthy activities especially for the youths and congratulated both the teams on their success. He emphasized to the Organizers that such Tournaments should be arranged on regular basis for the promotion of Football amongst the youth.

Riaz Akbar Contractor, Chief Organizer and Manager AKU Sports Centre thanked the guests, the participating teams, print and electronic media and the technical officials for all the support in organizing the successful tournament.

IoBM Vs SZABIST

IoBM won the match on extra time of 10 minutes each by Score 2-0 Goals. At end of the actual time, Score was 0-0.

Individual Score of Winner Team

1. Shehryar Khanzada 1 Goal (75th min) 2. Hamza Shahid 1 Goals (77th min).
