KARACHI: The Information Technology sector is one of the growing sectors in Pakistan in which lots of job opportunities await for IT competent students. There is need to increase more research in IT which needs funding and attention of government to give real shape of students’ ideas, said Department of Computer Science & Information Technology’s Chairman Prof Dr Najmi Ghani Hyder, NED University of Engineering & Technology (NEDUET) while speaking at annual IT Exhibition & Competition (ITEC) 2015.
The ITEC was organized by NEDUET’s Department of Computer Science & Information Technology in collaborations with a private company which was held on university’s premises. It was participated by large number of students from different universities and colleges of Karachi including NED University of Engineering and Technology, University of Karachi, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, and Aga Khan College.
Dr Najmi said ITEC is all about unleashing the potential and making connections between students and corporate sector through our innovative match making pavilion. Such exhibitions could encourage students’ new ideas through financial support and appreciation by multi-national companies, he added.
Students presented multi projects at ITEC including speed programming, web designing, animation and software/hardware.
The project of The Smart Drone Technology was presented by Shayan from NEDUET’s Software Engineering Department in the exhibition and delivered presentation on it. He said in his presentation that smart drone can fly in the sky up to 70 meters and go into the sea and can complete multiple tasks of rescuing people through its sensors and send alert SMS to registered people during heatstroke, informing and finding people when earth quick occurs, drowning people could be rescued and can help farming areas to show the percentage of humidity.
Another student Samreen from Computer Information System Department had presented project of Efficient Conversion Techniques for Urban Streets. She said this project can control the consumption of electricity depending on density of traffic on roads. If traffic density is high the street lights will be on at high beam but when the density reduces the street lights will be off and only alternative lighting polls will be kept on. The work of this project is almost complete, she added.
