KARACHI: Pasban-e-Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor Tuesday demanded formation of a joint investigation team (JIT) to probe alleged bungling in the census regarding figures related to population of Karachi.

In a statement, Shakoor said that the bureaucracy in Punjab and Sindh had fully shown its anti-people character. He said the ruling PPP in Sindh was not sincere to take up the pressing issues of Karachi including the census and was just issuing hollow statements to get some political mileage. He said the PPP was also involved in atrocities being meted out to Karachi. He said more harm was done to Sindh, including Karachi, by the provincial rulers than the federal government.

He asked the government to form a JIT and take action against all the government employees from Grade 2 to 22 involved in tempering the initial results of the census regrind Karachi. He said that Karachiites would not accept those results and had demanded fresh census with honesty and transparently.
