KARACHI: Saiban International Welfare Organization (SIWO) working for providing justice to the poor prisoners has helped nine prisoners in their release. Chairman Saiban Haq Nawaz Akhtar paid the fine, traveling expenses and got nine prisoners released who completed their sentence but were not released due to non-payment of their fines.
The prisoners pointed the fact to Incharge District and Session Judge Malir Sadaf Asif during her visit to Malir Prison along with judicial magistrates and SIWO’s representatives.
Under judicial policy of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP), the judge visited the jail to meet the prisoners to learn about the status of the cases against them and other problems facing them in the prisons.
Others accompanying the Incharge District and Session Judge were Judicial Magistrates Abdul Shakoor Kalhoro, Mohammad Ali Memon, Adnan A Singhar, Nadir Khan Burdi, General Secretary SIWO Haider Ali Haider and PA to DJ Malir Zubair Bin Mohammad.
Senior Superintendent of Malir Jail Mirza Shuja Haider Baig, Deputy Superintendent Mohammad Hassan Sehto, Assistant Superintendent Shuneel Shah and other jail officials were also present on the occasion.
Judges went round various barracks, met the prisoners and gathered detailed of the on-going cases in various courts.
A large number of prisoners presented applications for an early hearing of their cases while many submitted applications for the review of the court decisions.
During visit to different barracks, the prisoners informed the judges that they had completed their sentence but were in jail because of inability to pay the fined amount.
