K-Electric removes 3500 illegal connections

KARACHI: Under K-Electric’s Operation Burq, the power utility conducted 70 raids across the city. Around 3500 hook connections, weighing about 1000 Kg, were removed from areas including Orangi, Lyari, Bahadurabad, Saddar, Garden, Liaquatabad, Gulshan e Iqbal, Gadap, Johar, Malir, and Korangi.

As per statement, K-Electric’s team disconnected more than 1300 illegal connections because of outstanding dues worth Rs 74 million in the areas of Clifton, Bahadurabad, Saddar, Garden and Tipu Sultan.

In the area of Federal B Area, a commercial stitching unit was raided and found involved in power theft whereas a multi-storey commercial premises was caught red-handed for adding extra load than the fixed electricity usage via power theft. The team disconnected the supply line immediately and charged the penalty on the spot.

“We have ensured not to leave any stone unturned and therefore our recent raids prove our commitment towards rooting out power theft from core.” KE Spokesperson added.

During recent raids, 1000 illegal connections were pulled down from different areas in the vicinity of Surjani alone. Similarly 580 illegal connections were removed in Lyari, 300 in Malir, 650 in North Karachi and 200 kundas were removed from Bahadurabad area. Moreover, 11 people were taken into custody who was involved in stealing electricity illegally from areas of Allah Wala town, Al-Wasay town, Bilal, Christian town, Sharifabad and Awami Colony.
