KE removes 5000 more Kundas

Karachi: K-Electric issued a press statement releasing information about the ongoing Operation Burq campaign against heavy defaulters and power thieves. As per the statement, around 5,000 kundas (Illegal Connections) weighting over 1350KG were seized from 75 raids across the city.

K-Electric’s operation burq teams raided different residential and commercial spots in Orangi, Lyari, Clifton, Bahadurabad , Saddar, Garden, Liaquatabad, Gulshan e Iqbal, Orangi, Uthal and Site. 1147 connections were disconnected only in the areas of Orangi, Lyari, Uthal, Baldia and SITE on dues of Rs. 83 Million.

Operation Burq Teams, with the help of law enforcement agencies, conducted a massive Kunda removal drive in the high loss area of Baldia where 7 PMTs were raided with a high number illegal connections and 300 connections were disconnected on spot. A residential consumer in Apsara Apartment, Block-16, Gulshan-e-Iqbal was caught red handed using electricity through illegal means; an FIR was also launched in this case. In another case, a travel agency in Gulshan-e-Iqbal was raided where around 6 KW load was being used illegally. The lines were disconnected in both the cases and penalty was charged on the spot.

KE’s spokesman added, “we would like to inform our media friends that from areas where illegal connections are being removed along with illegal PMTs, the culprits resort to protests and block roads which is uncalled for. We are conducting these raids round-the-clock and these are done after thorough investigation. We would again like to thank our good customers who are pin-pointing the exact locations as well, and it makes it easier for us to target those involved in electricity theft”.

Several illegal connections of the defaulters were also disconnected against heavy dues in Naz Plaza, Jinnah Plaza, Mayfair Centre, Saddar Bazar, Burns Road, Hijrat Colony and Railway Colony.
