KMDC employees end protest on KMC assurances


KARACHI: The employees of Karachi Medical & Dental College on Monday called off their protest demonstration against non-payment of their salaries after the assurance of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Senior Director Medical Services Dr Salma Kausar that the salaries will be deposited in their banks accounts soon.

However, employees announced that the boycott of classes and dental OPDs will be continued till 30st August.

Earlier, the employees of Karachi Medical & Dental College (KMDC) being run by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation staged a protest demonstration against non-payment of their three-month salaries at KMDC.

The protesters said faculty members including assistant professors, professor and other staff have not been paid their salaries for three months. They have been facing great hardships due to this financial crisis.

They informed that the employees of KMDC from grade-1 to grade-17 have been deprived their salaries from one month while assistant professors, professors and other employees above 17-grade not paid their salaries of last three months.

However, Senior Director Medical Services Dr Salma Kausar reached KMDC and negotiated with employees, who called off their protest after her assurance that one salary of staff will be deposited in their account today while two pending salaries will be deposited till 30st August.

The employees later, not only ended their protest in KMDC and also withdraw decision of holding protest demo at the Civic Center.

However, these employees announced boycotting the curriculum activities and dental OPDs till 30st August.

Sources said KMC had release the grants of KMDC; therefore, the KMDC administration is unable to pay the salaries to senior faculty members on time.

Senior Director Medical Services KMC Dr Salma Kausar, when contacted, said one month salary has already been deposited in employees’ banks accounts while two pending salaries will be released very soon.
