KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday issued notice to Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) managing director and other KWSB’s top officials to respond on application seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against them for disobeying court order.
Justice Munib Akhtar was hearing a contempt of court application filed by Khalid Sheraz, who represented a contractor firm, named Qutubuddin Shaikh, MD KWSB, Khaleeq Ahmed deputy MD finance and Imran Zaidi director accounts as alleged contemnors.
Applicant’s counsel submitted that KWSB owed his client’s firm Rs2, 99, 51,780 for services his firm provided repairing and maintaining VMI Sludge Dredger (USA) AT MSTP-III but water entity has failed to make payment of outstanding amount.
He said that earlier on June 06, 2014 the court when approached by applicant had restrained the water entity from making payments to other contractors and directed it to pay outstanding amount of applicant’s firm first. But, counsel said, contrary to high court order, alleged contemnors were making payments to other contractors.
He told the judges that alleged contemnors have violated the court order and requested it to initiate contempt proceedings against them for flouting court orders.
After preliminary hearing, the judge directed alleged contemnors to file their comments on the application by September 11. The court asked Imran Zaidi director accounts KWSB to appear in court along with relevant record.
