KARACHI: Jamaat Islami (JI) Karachi chapter has declared early holding of local government elections necessary for solving the mounting civic issues of Karachi.
In a statement, it said that people were being denied of the basic necessities of life in ‘Commissionerate System’. To address these problems, ‘local bodies system’ was ideal for early solution of all problems being faced by city dwellers.
It was further said that water and electricity system has completely disrupted and many infectious diseases were spreading due to heaps of garbage at every nook and corner of the metropolis.
The sewerage system was also in deteriorating condition and in monsoon rains the routine life could be disrupted. The city government has failed to take necessary steps and the wrecked sewerage lines and lack of strategy for low-laying areas had multiplied the problems of dwellers.
Moreover, the people are protesting against the civic problems being faced by them but the current system has failed to address these issues. While criticizing former and present government of PPPP for not holding the local bodies’ polls, the JI said that for the solution of city problems, local government elections were imperative.
