Local artists warn government to launch protest movement

Peshawar: The local artists have warned the government to launch protest movement and knock the doors of the court if their names were not included in the lists of those, who were given monthly stipend.

Speaking at a news conference here at Press Club on Monday, the artists including Dr Niaz, Waseem Bacha, Zamir Bacha, Qazi Jamal, Nisar Malang, Sajjad Khalil, Mohammad Khan, Shahenshah Afridi, Sidra Khan and others appreciated the provincial government for awarding monthly stipend for 500 artists but observed that majority of them were not selected on merit.

They said that some artists, who had sung only one song were selected while some of them are those who had played only supporting role in a drama.

They claimed that 50 artists had been ignored who had been serving Pushto culture for the last 25 years. They asked the government to review the lists and include deserving artists so that they could also get the facilities and respect.
