Meeting: (Parliamentary leaders discuss Judicial Commission report)


ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the parliamentary leaders was held here on Wednesday with Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in the chair to discuss the Report of Judicial Commission on alleged rigging in the general election 2013.

The meeting also discussed the resolutions submitted by MQM and JUI-F in the National Assembly regarding the issue of de-seating PTI members of the National Assembly who remained absent from the Lower House over 40 days.

Talking to newsmen after the meeting, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid said all political parties have lauded and accepted the report of the Judicial Commission.

He said the Prime Minister has assigned the task to Federal Ministers Ishaq Dar, Saad Rafique, Pervaiz Rashid and Advisor to the Prime Minister Irfan Siddiqui to hold meeting with MQM and JUI (F) to persuade them to withdraw their resolutions from the National Assembly.

He said consultations in this regard will start from today. To a question, he said the matter regarding resignations of PTI members will be resolved within the parameters of the constitution. He said all the political forces should work together to overcome the challenges facing the country.

He said the Prime Minister appreciated those who supported democracy instead of container politics. Political leaders attending the meeting lauded Prime Minister’s political vision, far-sightedness and spirit of reconciliation.

The leaders who attended the meeting included Syed Khurshid Shah, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, Rasheed Godial, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Ijaz ul Haq, Siraj-ul-Haq, Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Mushahid Hussain Syed.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Minister of State for Telecommunication and Information Technology and Special Assistant to Prime Minister Irfan Siddiqui were also present in the meeting.
