QUETTA: Provincial government was taking effective and practical measures for mother and child health which has resulted in decrease in mortality ratio in the province.
Family planning is aimed at improving Health of mothers and bringing improvement in the province.
These views were expressed by Provincial Health Minister Rehmat Saleh Baloch and Population Welfare Minister Mujeebur Rehman Mohammad Hasani while addressing a ceremony organised by Balochistan Health Department, USAID and Jhpiego about family planning at a local hotel Thursday.
D Health Balochistan Dr Masood Nosherwani, PPHI’s Dr Amir Bakhsh Baloch, Dr Abdul Wahid Baloch, Dr Naila Ehsan and others also spoke on the occasion.
Rehmat Baloch said owing to 10 year terrorism in the province we have been pushed 50 years back. When present government assumed health department had reached at the brink of collapse. But today health and other departments were made to stand on their feet.
He said owing to lack of education in remote area so the province people were unaware of family planning and majority of women die during delivery. We are facing human resource and government has established three more medical colleges to overcome this. He said Gynecologists are almost nonexistent in t he province. Still we have ensured Gynecologists in far flung areas of the province.
He assured USAID and Jhpiego that provincial government was ready to extend full cooperation for mother and child health project.
Minister Mujeebur Rehman Mohammad Hasani said that after 18 th amendment Population was also part of health department. We would jointly work for family planning in the province and awareness would be created among the people.
Other speakers said that 1,60, 000 mothers conduct abortions every year who do not like babies and during nsecure abortion 800 mothers die.
