More paediatric emergency centers in Sindh soon

KARACHI: Sindh Health Department has decided to more establish paediatric emergency centres under public private partnership to reduce neonatal deaths ratio from Sindh province while a comprehensive good governance pattern would be introduced in all hospitals of the province.

This was announced by Provincial Minister for Health and Population Welfare Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho during a media briefing held at Health Department Sindh Secretariat here.

She said more paediatric emergency centres would be set up in government health facilities soon and all these centres would be monitored on regular basis.

Dr Azra Pechuho said Sindh health department has made a plan to introduce software to monitor the performance of Lady Health Workers (LHWs) and lady health supervisors (LHS) across the province.

She said more lady health workers would be hired to improve healthcare delivery system in the province which will help to minimise death ratio in women during pregnancy.

She said counselling of mothers would be conducted in all over the province for mandatory three-year gap between children birth at health facilities by appointing counsellors. The counsellors will do counselling of mothers after birth of child. She said use of contraceptive methods in Sindh province is high than other province.

The health minister said health department has decided to conduct the competency test for doctors before appointing on managerial posts in order to improve health delivery system, governance and promote merit in the department across the province.

She informed that Director General Health Services, District Health Officers, Civil Surgeons, and Medical Superintendents of tertiary-care hospitals would be appointed on merit in future. She no incompetent official would be posted on DHOs post in future.

Dr Azra said memorandum of understanding (MoU) had signed with non-governmental organizations to run rural health centres, basic health units and other health facilities by Sindh health department would be reviewed after completion of contract before giving them extension.

She said inspection and assessment of health facilities were underway through her visits to bring improvement in health delivery system. She said a comprehensive good governance patron would be introduced in health facilities of the province.

She said OPDs and emergency services of tertiary care hospitals would perform better in future as teams had already dispatched to inspect current condition of OPDs and emergency services of Sindh’s hospitals. She said shortage of doctors and other staff would be meted soon.

Dr Pechuho said biometric verification of medical staff was underway in the province and names of absent employees would be published in newspapers with their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) after completion of process.
