KARACHI: A Mother and Child Health Center (MCHC) was opened in Nusrat Bhutto Colony Union Council of North Nazimabad Karachi to provide better healthcare facilities to a people at their doorsteps.
An official of provincial health department Sindh confirmed that a Mother and Child Health Center has been made operational in Nusrat Bhutto Colony slum area of North Nazimabad.
He said former Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had ordered establishment of maternity home in 1995-96 in Union Council Nusrat Bhutto Colony named after her mother Begum Nusrat Bhutto.
The building of 22-bed maternity home was completed in 1998 and made functional in 1999 but before its formal inauguration 15 rooms of the maternity home was occupied by a political party with consent of the then provincial government in Sindh.
After 16 year of this illegal occupation, the activists of that political party vacated this building about a month ago after a raid of rangers following publication of news in a section of press.
Now the Sindh health department has opened the Mother and Child Health Center on the request area people. It would also have the facility of vaccination of nine fatal diseases including polio, measles, childhood tuberculosis, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, pneumonia, hepatitis and meningitis.
The residents of Shadman Town, Nusrat Bhutto Colony, Mustafabad, Manghopir, Khalilabad and other neighbourhoods will be benefitted from the medical facilities at this center.
Director Health Karachi Dr Zafar Ejaz, when contacted, said Mother and Child Health Center has been made operational in North Nazimabad Karachi on the demand of locals.
