KARACHI: Provincial minister for health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar on Thursday said that Sindh health department in collaboration with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) will work to eradicate dengue virus in Sindh province.
This he said while talking to a delegation of PLAN International, an NGO, here in Sindh Assembly Building. Manager Dengue Control Program Dr Masood Solangi and National Program Manager PLAN Aijaz Khuwaja were also present in the meeting.
Jam said media, political leadership and members of civil society will be taken on board in this regard and seminars and walks will be held across the province. A PLAN representative told the provincial health minister that the NGO would provide funds while health department would give technical support for eradication for dengue virus in Sindh and an memorandum of understanding (MoU) had been signed between secretary health and PLAN.
Jam while expressing his satisfaction over cooperation of NGOs, hoped the positive cooperation would continue in future, which will help reduce the menace of dengue virus. Program Manager Dr Masood Solangi briefed the provincial health minister about the measures taken to eradicate dengue virus in the province. The health minister detected program manager to take all stakeholders on board and hold seminars at university level and added that he would not tolerate any negligence in this regard.
He said during last year in a massive awareness drive against dengue, 500,000 pamphlets were distributed across the province and this year as many as 700,000 pamphlets will be distributed for the same purpose.
