Karachi: Pakistan Scrabble Association (PSA) Vice President Tariq Pervez announced Pakistan team for World Youth Scrabble Championship at the conclusion of Horlicks 27th Pakistan Scrabble Championship.
Pakistan Scrabble Championship, which turned out to be a record breaking event, concluded on Sunday here at Karachi Expo Centre.
A total of 764 players participated making it the biggest scrabble tournament in Southeast Asia and the second largest scrabble tournament in the world.
It was also the largest tournament of any single sport in Pakistan’s history.
Players as young as six and as old as 70 were competing in their respective age categories, a vast majority of the participants were school children. Over 100 schools from Karachi actively took part.
For the first time players from all four provinces as well as the federal capital flew in to Karachi to take part in the historic event.
Another salient feature of the event was the organizing team of the tournament consisted of teenaged players (average age 16 only) who have represented Pakistan in international events.
The tournament director Tariq Pervez also announced the Pakistan team for World Youth Scrabble Championship, which will be held in Perth, Australia from October 31 November 2, 2015.
The squad for the international event includes Mariam Arif, Ahmed Abdullah Abbasi, Taha Mirza, Syed Mirza, Hassan Hadi, Hammad Hadi, Ali Rashid, Danial Sanaullah, Absar Mustajab and Hamza Shaikh.
Category A (Age category 10-12): 1- Moonis Khan, 2- Muzammil Bin Asim, 3- Hatim Adam Ali.
Category B (12-14): 1- S. Imaad Ali, 2- Fizza Rehmani, 3- Huzaifa Zafar.
Category C (14-16): 1- Azkar Saad. – Zainab Shujaat, 3- Samir Mustafa.
Category D (16-18): 1- S. M. Qasim, 2- Simal Linjara, 3- Hiba Saad.
Category E (18-20): 1- Ali Reza Pabaney, 2- Ahmed Salik, 3- Maryam Pardesi.
Category F (20 and above): 1- Ashfaq Khatti, 2- Rafiq Daud Khatti, 3- Aariz Raza.
