Pak special athletes accumulate 33 medals as curtain falls on Special Olympics


Los Angeles: Pakistan special athletes clinched 33 medals as the biggest ever Special World Olympic Games concluded on Sunday here with an impressive closing ceremony.

Ronak Lakhani, chairperson Special Olympics Pakistan (SOP) congratulated the medal winners.

In swimming, Pakistan’s special athletes managed two gold and as many silver medals. In athletics, the athletes in green won a gold medal, four silver and three bronze.

In badminton, Pakistan won three gold medals. In cycling events, Pakistani cyclists won six gold, two silver and one bronze medal. In table tennis, Pakistan won one gold and two bronze medals. In tennis, Pakistani players won gold and as many silver and bronze medals.

In unified basketball and traditional basketball events, Pakistan won one silver medal in each event. In a tough contest in football event, Pakistan won a bronze medal.

Pakistan contingent is scheduled to leave for Pakistan on August 3 by three flights landing separately in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
