KARACHI: Chairman Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Nasir Jafir on Thursday said fifteen new aircrafts would be added into the PIA fleet by the end of next year.
“The strength of PIA fleet will reach fifty with this addition,” he said addressing a discussion on performance of PIA organized by Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT).
Nasir Jafir said eighty three percent of the flights were on time. He said number of steps was taken to meet the challenges of national flag carrier.
The chairman said PIA had suffered a loss of Rs300 million recently, however despite challenges PIA operated Hajj operations successfully.
Jafir said that lack of ownership and accountability was one of the major problems of PIA. He said better human resource was key to revival of PIA.
“We have advertised the post of managing director of PIA who would be hired on merit,” he said.
Former Secretary Defence Nargis Sethi briefed the session about the performance of PIA.
Senator Nouman Wazir, Pakistan People’s Party Spokesperson Farhat Ullah Babar and Secretary General PPP Sardar Latif Khosa were also present on the occasion.
