KARACHI: Since Ali Enterprises fire tragedy in Karachi in 2012, PILER has been campaigning for the compliance with International Workplace Safety Standards. As a part of these advocacy efforts PILER has produced a documentary on this significant issue, title “Workplace Safety in Pakistan“.
PILER would now like to screen the documentary and invites like-minded labour support organizations and individuals to continue the debate around the emerging need for compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Standards at workplaces in Pakistan.
PILER has also organized a Roundtable on Strategies for Accountability and Decent Work Conditions in the Apparel and Garment Industry in South Asia at Kathmandu, Nepal early this year, to extend the debate of core labour rights and workplace safety at regional level.
The idea of discussing these issues on the regional level emerged after the similar violations of labour rights and workplace safety standards exposed through the Ali Enterprises fire incident in Pakistan and Tazreen fire and Rana Plaza building collapse incidents in Bangladesh. PILER has brought out a comprehensive report of the mentioned Roundtable for further sharing with the relevant stakeholders especially in Pakistan.
