ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is meeting legal experts and advisers after receiving a report by the judicial commission investigating alleged rigging and irregularities in the 2013 general elections.
According to sources, the consultative meeting was called to mull over legal and constitutional aspects raised in the commission’s detailed report. The meeting is also being attended by federal ministers.
The three-member judicial commission headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk in its detailed report sent to the Ministry of Law has rejected all the three allegations of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on rigging in the 2013 general elections.
The commission was formed after long-running protests by the PTI last year, which paralyzed the federal capital and forced the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government to agree on initiating a judicial inquiry into the PTI’s complaints of rigging and mass electoral irregularities.
