KARACHI: A coordination meeting of Sindh Police under the chairmanship of Inspector General Police Sindh Ghulam Hyder Jamali was held with Director Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Ashfaq Musavi and cellular services providers here at Central Police Office.
DIG Headquarters Sindh A A Jaffery, additional IGs of special branch Karachi and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), DIGs of South, AIGs of Operations, Logistics, Legal and Administration were also present on the occasion. The group of senior representatives of cellular companies (including Mobilink, Ufone, Telenor, Warid, Zong) were headed by Director PTA Ashfaq Musavi.
The meeting discussed in detail about timely acquiring of required information like GEO fencing, CDR, Data collection etc.
It was decided to appoint focal persons for all the units of Sindh Police to remove the bottle necks for smooth flow of information to ensure timely action against the terrorists and criminal elements. In this regard, a list of focal persons for each unit of Police Department would be finalized and communicated to PTA within 24 hours. IG Sindh directed DIG HQs Sindh to do the needful actions in this regard.
It was also decided that the cellular companies would ensure timely communication of data regarding GSM location to police as and when required. “It is imperative to have immediate GSM location of high valued moving target to ensure timely police action,” said DIG CTD.
The meeting decided to take up the issue of information regarding GEO fencing with interior ministry immediately to sort out any possible ambiguity. IG Sindh directed DIG HQs to draft a letter for the ministry of interior on justified and logical grounds. He also asked PTA to approach interior ministry in the light of the discussions/decisions taken in the meeting.
